I would just like to say... THEY USE IT TO MAKE ROPE!
Posted by DeeDee @ 11:03 PM
Just got back from dinner with my great uncle. Like most of my family, he lives in Louisiana, but he was in Texas visiting his brother-in-law. Both of them are widowers who lost their wives in the past year, and they kept talking about them. It was so sad, but also sweet. He also gave me some money just out of the blue, and I was sooo grateful because I really needed it. I took some pictures of everyone, and we generally had a great time. :-D Now I'm off to see Rosencratz and Guildenstern are Dead with the English department, then come back to a marvelous evening of SNL. *runs off*

I had a great time in the Oxford class today. We discussed the introduction of Strider. :-D
Eeeee! How do I love Aragorn? Let me count the ways! . . . Nah, I'll spare ya. Before class, Helen, Dr. Wood's assistant, invited me to see a play with some people in the English graduate department. I've been wanting to read or see Rosencratz and Guildenstern are Dead, so here's my chance to go and possibly make some spiffy friends. And after class, I spent about half an hour talking to Dr. Wood about paper ideas and life in general, which was nice.. . . a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall . . . He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well [DeeDee inserts: rar, I say!!], but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits.
"I hoped you would take to me for my own sake. A hunted man sometimes wearies of distrust and longs for friendship."

It's nice that Orli has a girlfriend now, and even nicer that she doesn't seem to be a mindless Barbie. I knew I recognized Kate Bosworth from somewhere, so I looked her up. She played the girlfriend in Remember the Titans and did a great job. Apparently she was a champion equestrian at the age of 14, and she can also surf, so that should make Orli happy. And as much as some of us want to hate her, how can you hate someone who "volunteers with various non-profit organizations, including a Los Angeles program for physically challenged children who learn to ride horses with assistance"? Maybe she met Orli at this TTT premiere? ;-) Anyway, I have to grudgingly admit that Orli seems to have found a sweet and talented girl. Now as long as everyone stays away from Jimmy Fallon...

I finally found out how to get rid of those awful gray popup ads that used to come up on my screen a million times a day. When I woke up in the morning, I'd have to close like six of them, and they would even appear over my lovely screensaver of Aragorn and Legolas pictures. Some of them even had the nerve to advertise programs (for only $14.95!) to get rid of them. Basically, they were beginning to drive me insane (it's a very short trip, I'll admit). If these things are on your computer and you want to get rid of them, here is the site that told me how. *Gollum voice* We told them to go away, and away they go, Precious! Gone, gone, gone! DeeDee is freeeee!
Class was quite boring this morning, but it was nothing compared to what I'll have to endure from 3:30-6:30 this evening: three hours of John Ruskin's views on Pre-Raphaelite architecture. The lesson to learn from my sufferings is this: if you see a course called "Victorian Literature," don't assume that it will cover Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, the Brontes, and the Brownings. You might end up studying the obscure writings of a 40-year-old art critic who fell in love with his 11-year-old cousin, or interpreting the use of a light in a painting of sheep on a hill.

*sings* Iaaaan!
Yesterday I followed Alyssa's example and joined Deviantart, which is quite spiffy, even though it frustrated me to no end at first. Here's my page there. It's a really great site; you can submit photography, blends, artwork, stories and poems, even stuff like wallpapers and winamp skins. And you can leave comments and get comments from other people, which is the best part. :-D

My computer is insane. Last night it gave me a weird error message that I needed to restart, so I did. When it started up again, I couldn't get online with AIM, Outlook, or Explorer. It wasn't our cable, because Shan's computer stayed online. When I woke up, it still wouldn't let me onto the internet, so I restarted it again. And now it works. If anyone would like to make donations for my computer to see a therapist, please contact me.
Last night I dreamed that I was attending a special school for writers in Chicago. We were doing some assignment where we had to use graph paper to map out plot arcs, which was very strange. And there was this cute guy in the class who kept doing sweet things for me and talking to me. Then I woke up. It's pretty rare for me to remember my dreams, and even more unlikely for me to have dreams that don't involve dying or getting lost or being chased. So the weird writing class and the sweet guy were welcome changes. On a random note, there was also a part where I kept trying to sharpen my pencil, but the machine wouldn't sharpen it.
