For the Oxford paper, I'm skimming Tolkien's letters, and I have to say, I definitely plan to read them all sometime soon. They're greatness! He talks about the sadness of the Elves, Eowyn's love for Aragorn, and Faramir's mercy. And he calls Sam the "chief hero" of the story. But he also wrote this, which confirms what I have always thought:
And this...For me the most tragic moment in the Tale comes when Sam fails to note the complete change in Gollum's tone and aspect. His repentance is blighted and all Frodo's pity is (in a sense) wasted. Shelob's lair became inevitable... [Sam] did reach the point of pity at last, but for the good of Gollum too late... I think [Gollum] would then have sacrificed himself for Frodo's sake and have voluntarily cast himself into the fiery abyss.
*clings to Tolkien's letters* They are greatness, even if he does call Aragorn/Arwen the "highest love story." :-XEowyn: It is possible to love more than one person (of the other sex) at the same time, but in a different mode and intensity. I do not think that Eowyn's feelings for Aragorn really changed much; and when he was revealed as so lofty a figure, in descent and office, she was able to go on loving and admiring him. Also she was not herself ambitious in the true political sense.

I have a new best friend, and its name is Kazaa.
The papers are doing better than expected - I actually have thesis statements for both of them! For the Pre-Raphaelite paper, I'm being tricksy and focusing the discussion on Jane Austen, and how she prefigures some of John Ruskin's concepts about architecture. Sounds boring, does it? Try writing it! But at least I get to talk about the utter, unsurpassable greatness that is Jane.
And of course, the Oxford paper is no problem either. =) I'm talking about Chesterton's and Tolkien's views on suicide, mainly using Eowyn, Denethor, and the stuff about elves dying of grief.

*sings* I loooove Harry Potter! Since the DVD came out the other day, and since Book 5 is only a few months away *dances* I've been getting back into it. The deleted scenes on CoS are greatness. I was so glad they put back the scenes of Fred and George calling Harry a "seriously evil wizard," and the greatest thing of all, Lockhart's pop quiz. "To rid the world of evil, and to market my own line of haircare products." *dies* Lockhart is the greatest thing ever. *sings* Maaaagical meeeee!
Er... sorry about that.
But I can't wait for Book 5. I need more Lupin, Ronniekins joining the Quidditch team, R/H finally happening, Snape spying on the bad guys, the truth about James and Lily... Must... have book 5. We neeeeds it, Precious.
I finally got to see the Conan episode with Sean Astin last night. It was complete greatness; they even talked about Led Zeppelin's LotR songs. :-D
Hmmm. Wow. You know what, this entry is pointless and makes no sense -- thereby conforming to the strict standards of my blog.
I'll close with a short but pleasant trip down memory lane:
Awww. :'-( But that does remind me -- Happy Birthday, little Eowyn doll!april 18, 2002

Pretty regular day ahead. I have the Oxford class 2-3:30, then I have to go to the library and get sources for my papers, and then work 6-10. I'm going to be working on those horrible papers allll weekend, so I think tonight at work, I'm going to buy myself a little junk food to help weather the stress. :-D Moll put up a great new layout at c/m, and Choi sent me a rare video in which the guy, not she, is drooling. ;-) Also, I sincerely apologize for the complete pointlessness of this post, but as always, please note the blog's title.
Oh, and these are neat!

Ugh. Tonight I had to train this new guy, and he was the stupidest jerk. I'd try to show him something and he'd interrupt me and say "Yeah, yeah, I know." Then when he'd have to do it, he'd get annoyed and tell the customers, "Sorry, she isn't showing me how to do this stuff." Sometimes, he'd just step aside and say, "I don't feel like ringing all this up. You do it." And I just stood there giving him a look like "Die." until he got back to work. Several times he tried to scan things while the drawer was still open, and called me away from working around the store because he didn't know why the items wouldn't scan.
By the end of the night, I was ready to kill him. So when it was 5 minutes before he got off, I told him he had to clean the toilets, wipe the bathroom walls and baseboards, and mop the floor. After he left, my coworker on register 2 died laughing and said it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. We both hope that he either quits or gets fired. Loser.
*breathes* So anyway... I have the next two days off! *dances*

Sheesh. Tonight at work, one of my coworker's friends came in to talk. They started talking about the war, and one of them said, "I think we need to just go over there and level the country, you know?" And I said, "And kill so many innocent people?" And my coworker said, "Well, they bombed New York." I was like, "....." and went to stock the cooler. Arg. Just... arg.

Work was alright yesterday. I wasn't on the register, which was nice. I was just there to clean up around the store and organize the cooler. Then my loving family had the kindness to call me and tell me that they were at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans at that very moment. Evilness! While I was talking to my brother, I was trying to reach a six-pack of Old Milwaukee beer, and I dropped it on my head. :-/
Last night I dreamed that I had written half of one of my papers, and when I woke up, it was like, "...Crap." I'm not so worried about the LotR paper on despair in Eowyn and Denethor, but that Pre-Raphaelite one about Ruskin and architecture, erm... right.
