I'm only on page 300-something, since I've been reading the book aloud to Shan. She went to the store, and I'm resting my voice. lol my throat is sooo sore, but I don't care. I hope she returns soon, because I'm dying to know what happens. :D
More thoughts... don't want spoilers? Begone with ye!
This book is so much darker and more adult than the other four put together, not only in themes, but in vocabulary and diction. And my reaction to that is: greatness. I am loving it. The characters are becoming so complex and engrossing - especially Lupin. I want to kidnap him and ravish him. I mean... er... did I just say that?
The history of Sirius' family was fascinating, and added a whole new dimension to how some of these people react to each other. He said all pure-blood families are interrelated, so now I'm dying to know how the Potters and Weasleys fit into this scheme. Is it possible that red-haired Lily is connected somehow to the Weasleys? And of course, I'm still waiting to learn Petunia's role in all this.
I really loved how the first part gave us so much more of Bill, Fred, George, and Ginny. Of all the Weasleys, really. Molly's encounter with the boggart made me tear up. And I love Arthur. As for Percy, all I can say is, I knew it. And I also find it interesting how Canon Ginny is now matching up with Fanfic Ginny... mischievous, with a quick temper. A sock-stealer indeed! It's like suddenly after four books, we now finally know something about what she's like. I can't wait to read more about her as the book goes on.
New characters: I absolutely love Tonks! *clings to her* She is utter greatness. And Luna is odd, but I like her lol. For a while on the train, it seemed like she was crushing a little on Ron, didn't it? Not that I blame her. ;) Umbridge needs to die a horrible, horrible death. I do know already who dies in book 5, and it galls me that that person will die instead of this sad excuse for a human being. That detention was sick and evil.
Old characters: I want to see more of Snape. I want to know what he's been up to. I don't quite know yet what to make of Cho. I've always liked her, but now something just seems weird about her, especially with Cedric dead. It's strange that Dumbledore is avoiding Harry, but understandable, really. It gives their enemies no reason to accuse them of plotting or working together.
*sighs* Ron... how I love him. How. I. Adore. Ron. Was anyone else just aching for him when he got his moment of glory, and his two best friends acted shocked and disbelieving, while his brothers mocked him? It was just horrible when Hermione ran in and assumed Harry had gotten it, then had to put her foot in her mouth. Poor Ron. I just wanted to huggle him and say, "I think you're the greatest, Ron. I really do." And when he was too embarrassed to tell Harry and Hermione of his plans to try out for Quidditch? That broke my heart. *huggles him again*
As for our beloved hero, I'm sorry, but Harry is grating on my very last nerve. He whines, he angsts, he snaps and shouts at Ron and Hermione for no reason (and they both take it wonderfully well), and... the worst thing... he actually had the nerve to begrudge Ron being prefect! What, Harry, poor Ron can't have one chance to beat you at something? Gah. Get over it. I know he's been through a lot, but he's treating everyone like dirt. He annoyed me occasionally in books 3 and 4, but now my feelings towards Harry are bordering on outright dislike. :-/

asdlfjozxcivjlsekrjewi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Book Five! BOOK FIVE!!! FINALLY!!!! *clutches it* Fi. nally. Here I am, approximately one minute after buying the book:
I've read the first two chapters, and I'm about to go to bed so I can spend all day reading. A few thoughts, and small spoilers. By the way, if you don't want HP5 spoilers, don't visit my blog this weekend. ;)
1) The first two chapters just kind of whallop you with action and new mysteries, don't they? And overall, the tone so far is much more mature and even adult than the first books.
2) Harry with an attitude, taunting Dudley: interesting. Harry has definitely changed. He seems so much more hardened and bitter, but that's understandable.
3) What in the world is up with Petunia? When she told Vernon that "dementoids" (lmao!) came from Azkaban, I thought, "Hooold up." And now the Howler has me dying to know more.
4) I didn't at all expect Mrs. Figg to be a squib. But then, we don't know if she's Arabella Figg. I really hope Arabella is a magical relative.
On a side note, did anyone else catch JKR on Dateline? Katie Couric jokingly asked her if Harry and Hermione would be "snogging" in book 5, and JKR gave this weird look and said, "Harry and Hermione? Do you think so? RON and Hermione is where there's tension." :D That's probably the clearest R/H quote JKR's ever given. Greatness.
Well, that's all for now. Must sleep. Must.... try to sleep.

I don't really have anything to blog, but I'll make this post anyway to fill the space. Just so this post isn't 100% pointless, here's a weird fact:
In Massachusetts, there is Lake CHARGOGAGOG- MANCHARGOGAGOGCHARBUNAGUNGAMOG, usually listed on maps as "Lake Webster." It supposedly means "You fish on your side, I'll fish on my side, nobody fish in the middle."
That valuable information comes from here.

lol.... from the new Time article on HP5:
Many have found embedded in the books all kinds of biblical imagery. "If you read these books carefully, they are not only not evil, they are profound stories about good, and they are deeply religious," argues Baylor University philosophy professor Scott Moore, who started by reading the books to his kids and ended up staying up late to finish for himself.
...yay Baylor. *waves flag*
And here's a survey.

Larissa, you're so sweet! Thanks! :D
What a weekend I had! *dances* My family arrived Friday evening, and we went out to eat Chinese. Then my sisters (Emma and Martha) spent the night at the apartment, while I went to the hotel with my parents and my brother Bobby. They've been reading this book series by Orson Scott Card, and they talked me into reading it too. So Bobby and I drove to Barnes and Noble that night so I could buy the first in the series, Ender's Game. It's complete greatness, I read the first 100 pages of it that night. At least it'll help me stay out of a straitjacket until Friday at midnight, when I finally get my hands on a certain book....
They were planning to leave Saturday morning, but my brother, being the greatness and sweetness that he is, volunteered to pay for the second night at the hotel. So they stayed all day yesterday. :D First, we went to the Dr. Pepper museum. Then we drove out to the site of Mt. Carmel, where David Koresh and the Branch Davidians died in 1993. It's weird because we always make so many jokes about it, but now that I've been there, I don't think I ever will again. We walked around and saw all the monuments to babies and children (most of the deaths were women and children), and it really hit home how unfunny that incident was. There was something to laugh at, however. We met a guy there who was telling us about his obsession with Bible codes. He was weird lmao.
After that, I took my sisters swimming. Then my mom and I went to Barnes and Noble. Then I took my dad out for supper for his Father's Day present, and Bobby came with us. I spent the second night at the hotel, then woke up at 6:30 so I could go to work. Blech.
The day at work started off badly because I dropped a box of 20 Budweiser bottles. Four of them broke and made a mess, and I drove a huge glass splinter into my hand while I cleaned up. I had just finished cleaning the mess and putting a bandaid on my hand when my family came in to say goodbye. I guess they'll be getting home in the next hour or so.
As for the car, I love it. In order to break it in to its full dorky purpose, I'll have to get another Jane Austen bumpersticker for it. :D
I also talked about future plans with my parents, and it so happens that I'M GOING HOME the weekend of July 18. HOME! *dances about with ridiculous happiness* I'm going to take a much-needed semester off, then enter grad school (in the city where my old college is) to study library science. Happy-ness. Happiness to a million exponential degrees. A billion.
