Just my rambling thoughts on the parallels between the Marauder generation and the new generation. This has been discussed before, I know, but in light of OotP, I think the dynamics have really changed. Before there were clear parallels:
Harry/James - looked alike, Quidditch stars, noble enemies of Voldemort
Ron/Sirius - the best friends, brave, passionate, funny, impulsive
Hermione/Remus - the quiet thinkers, steady, logical [I could also be a little slashy and point out R/H and R/S]
Ginny/Lily - the red-haired [eventual] love-interest of the Potter boy
Neville/Peter - the weakest parallel point, but still there. Harry even thought that Pettigrew looked like Neville, and Neville was a "weak" outsider.
Draco/Severus - the Potter boy's enemy
Now, however, each comparison has been turned right on its head, and in most of the cases, I think it reflects the theme of Book 5: what is right, versus what is easy.
Harry/James. James took the easy way and bullied those he didn't like. Harry shows relative restraint with his enemies, and shows much more mercy to those who are weaker or different from him. James was arrogant; Harry is (relatively) humble.
Ron/Sirius. Sirius broke rules for the fun of it, and, like James, bullied those he didn't like. He treated Peter horribly, whereas Ron is kind to Neville, even calling out to him in St. Mungo's. Sirius represented the easy way of immaturity and recklessness, while Ron (especially in Book 5) is mature and cautious.
Hermione/Remus. Remus - and who can blame him? - was so frightened of losing his friends, he took the easy way and refused to stand up to them. Hermione is not willing to make that compromise. Unlike Remus, she takes seriously the responsiblity of being a prefect, as in her willingness to stand up to Fred and George Weasley.
Ginny/Lily. Nothing to symbolize what is right/what is easy in this case, but still the parallel was turned upside-down. Ginny has always liked Harry, but Lily hated James. Hopefully, we'll learn more about Lily, and this parallel can be fleshed out a little more.
Neville/Peter. Nowhere is the difference more obvious. Some people worried that Neville would be the rat in Harry's generation, but I think that theory has been buried quite resolutely. Peter did what was easy - he betrayed his friends. Neville has chosen to do what is right - to stand by his friends, even if he has no idea why they want to save a mass murderer who was probably friends with the woman who tortured his parents.
Draco/Severus. Again, I think we need to learn more about these two. But so far, I think it's the only case in which the person in the older generation did what was right, and the person in the new generation does what's easy.

Eek, I keep forgetting to blog stuff here. *is getting very attached to Livejournal format...* Let's see, erm... just got back from Legally Blond 2, which was silly, but funny. And since everyone blogs spoilers lately, here's one of my own for those who are dying to know:

Tomorrow I work all day, 7 am - midnight, which I volunteered to do, since it's extra pay and I really need the money. Never cared much about the 4th anyway. And that's about all I have to say. Not that I really needed to say any of it, or that any of it is remotely relevant to anyone, but that's what blogs are for, right?

Had a fun experience at work last night. I was stocking cigarettes while someone walked in. Then I finished stocking and turned around as another person walked in. I said "Hello" to that person. Then a black lady came to the front of the store and said, "What, you're not gonna say hello to me?" I was like, "Oh, I didn't see you come in. How are you?" lol then she just started going off, like, "We're not your slaves anymore, you know, you little white bitch." Me: "erm..." It was all I could do not to say anything, I was biting my tongue so hard. She was saying all this stuff like I greet white people, but not black people. Then she asked if we had Pepsi 12-packs, so I showed her where they were. I carried it to the counter for her and was about to ring her up, but she said, "Oh nooooo, I think you need to wait on your little Caucasian friend first." She pulled the 12-pack away and stepped back. "Come on, let her wait on your little white ass first."
The white woman said, "Why are you treating her like that? Do you know anything about her?" lmao and then they started screaming at each other, and I was trying so hard not to bust out laughing. It was really funny. They even descended to the "Your momma" argument, I kid you not. *dies* Then the white woman was like, "What are you lookin' at my butt for? Are you gay?" And the black woman said, "What butt? This is a butt." Then she turned around and stuck her butt out. The white woman said, "F--- you," and then they both started screaming even louder.
Finally, they left, and my coworker came in and said, "What... was that?" And I doubled over laughing and told him what happened. So then the black lady came back in and said, "I see you in here laughing! Well, we're not your slaves anymore, and I don't expect to be treated like it." Me: *maintaining straight face, biting tongue, saying nothing, very pissed off* "You can treat my people however you want, that's between you and God." Then finally, mercifully, she left.
One of our regular customers (*gasp* a black guy that I always talk to) was in the back, and he came to the counter with a big grin on his face. He said, "DeeDee, are you a racist now?" I said, "Yeah, as of tonight." He laughed and said, "I don't think that woman was right in the head."
I was furious that she went off over something so asinine, like she even knows anything about me. I mean seriously, for all she knew, I was saying hello to a friend. But I have to say, that screaming match was about the funniest thing I've seen in ages. My tongue is still sore from having to bite it not to tell her off or laugh at the two of them.
I have work 10-6, blerg.
