If the bottom set of screencaps on this page don't depict an elf deeply in love, I just don't know what does. Forget Arwen, this is the elf who really wants to give up immortality for a mortal.

Look at the adoration, the angst! I need a kleenex... *angel smile*

...my Gimli is sacked too. And I don't mean by Legolas either, so don't get your hopes up! hmph. :'-(

Eeeeeeeeee! *clings to Choi* She sent me an 8x10 photo paper of Alan Lee's "The Parting of Aragorn and Eowyn" (the painting on my main page) and it's so prettyyyyy! *dies* I already have it in a frame. And she also snuck in a cute little photo of Orli in The Yellow Shirt from the Japan press conference last year. I knew I was wise in making her the Aragorn in my Fellowship. My Gandalf, on the other hand, has been sacked. Hmph.

Tolkienology 101: What is Your Tolkien Belief System?

Tolkien Liberal: Everyone has their own path in Tolkien fandom, and who is to say who is right and who is wrong? You listen to all sides and draw your own conclusions. There's a little bit of truth to be found in every point of view. In your refusal to claim that any one faction has the exclusive claim to Tolkien Truth, you tend to end up getting flamed by them all.

rotflmao... I better watch myself around the conservatives and fundamentalists... *angel smile* I pilfered that quiz from a moderate.

I finished The Bell Jar last night. It was such a good book, and has a happy ending, if you separate the character from the author and see it as a novel rather than an autobiography. Esther is not Sylvia Plath, and she goes back to her college and has a chance to make it. :-D But I read the little biography of Sylvia Plath in the back of the book, and it was so sad. She was a beloved English professor at Smith college, an award-winning writer, and a wife and mother, but killed herself when she was like 30. Sadness.

And if I didn't identify with the book enough, there was a character named DeeDee in the last few chapters. She was a depressed woman with lesbian tendencies who was obsessed with playing chopsticks on the piano. I... don't know. Seriously though, lol, I really identified with Esther, so I was happy that her story ended on an optimistic tone.

I finally got my drivers license renewed today; it expired on my birthday back in September, so I've been an outlaw for four whole months. *looks rebellious* And I went to the mall with my mom and sisters. My sisters got haircuts, and I found a 50% sale on the big TTT calendar. At the mall here, they have this new thing where you can sit in a massaging chair for either one minute ($1) or five minutes ($3). The chairs have these little vending slots like soda machines. It's the weirdest and saddest thing I ever saw.

My first day of 2003: ate yummy chicken gumbo, cleaned up firework trash in driveway and garage, went to grocery store with mom and sisters, watched Bandits with mom, played Nintendo with sisters, learned from brother how to change car tire to spare tire (since rear driver tire conveniently went flat), watched Centerstage again with sisters, ate ice cream, read more of my book. All in all, a day well spent. I think my parents are planning a trip to New Orleans, and I hope so, because I'd really like to go with them. And I'm dying to see TTT again soon. Mollness of greatness is back, Shan's new domain is up, and Ceri has a new layout of long-haired Orliness. Nice. =)

Happy 2003, everyone! Spiffy signs from Alyssa, blueby, and Geamhradh, and a Yahoo card from Mollness. Thanks guys! *clings*

The Bell Jar is beautiful and disturbing. Especially when some passages sound so much like Esther is in your head that it makes you cry. I spent most of New Year's Eve day in bed, feeling too sick to move, then had a serious discussion with my parents.

But our New Year's Eve night was pretty fun. My brother, sisters, and a few of their friends shot off every firework known to man. When I went out to the garage, Bobby had a few smoke bombs going, and I just about choked. Then our neighbors started doing fireworks too, and Bobby said, "No way can they be louder than we are!" So he ran inside and got his homemade potato gun, which was indeed... loud. lmao no telling where all those poor innocent potato corpses landed. After the fireworks, we watched one of my favorite movies, the completely hilarious Happy, Texas starring Mr. Knightley himself, Jeremy Northam. Mmmm.

I added a link to Cara, for she is spiffy. And any fan of Eowyn is a dear, dear friend of mine. :-D To start things off properly, I'll steal a survey from her.

1) You, Legolas, alone in one room. What do you do? Discuss the geopolitics of Middle-Earth. *angel smile*
2) You, Arwen, alone in one room. What do you do? chip her nails, mess up her hair, and put a dirt smudge on her. that alone would kill her, and I would be happy.
3) We sadly lost 3 when he fell into....ummm...ok, we just lost him: huh?
4) What gift would you ask of the Elves? Legolas
5) What race would you most like to be: I think the humans are more interesting, but I'd be happier as a hobbit.
6) Honestly...would you keep it secret, and safe? I'd probably lose it
7) If you would keep it secret and safe, would you be the Ring-bearer, or would you swear to protect the Ring-bearer? I'd swear to protect Aragorn, Legolas, and Faramir, who in turn protect the Ring-bearer... does that count?
8) Ok, you are the Ring-bearer, who makes up the Fellowship with you (of your friends) and if they’re enough like a character, say who they’d be: my brother would take on the assassin role of Legolas by pelting orcs with his potato gun. my sisters can be Merry and Pippin. Alyssa can be my Gandalf, blue my Gimli, Choi my Aragorn, and Shan my Boromir (minus the ring-lust and dying of course). And my parents would be my Sam, I guess.
9) Ok, you’re not the Ring-bearer (but you are in the Fellowship like above), who of your friends would be the Ring-bearer? are you asking which of my friends should lose a finger? um... *thinks up random person* blue!
10) Are you evil? Evil enough to become a tool of Sauron? nah.
11) If you had to be one of the nasty/evil creatures (i.e. the Balrog, the Cave Troll, an orc, Ring Wraith, etc) what one would you be, and why? I'd be the watcher in the water, because he doesn't die and he can do lots of things at once.
12) If you didn’t know the Ring was The One Ring, but you knew it made you disappear and such, what would you do with it? disappear
13) Pippin and Merry - are they really ok guys, or just big nuisances? Merry is one of my favorite characters! if Eowyn calls someone courageous and asks her brother to make that person a knight, that person is my hero. and Pippin is great.
14) Who kicks the most ass: Gandalf, Legolas, Strider, or Gimli? Aragorn. Well let me give it more thought. Aragorn.
15) Would you rather be an Archer, Wizard, or Ranger?: Eeee, a Ranger! I love Rangers! rar. *clings to entire Grey Company, who better not be cut out of RotK or people at New Line will suffer*
16) Who’s your favorite character? Aragorn, Eowyn, Faramir, and Gollum. Don't ask me to pick between them! I won't do it!
17) Who’s your favorite hobbit? Merry
18) If, for some odd reason, Aragorn and Legolas were to get in a fight, who do you think would win (and why)? Aragorn always wins. Havo dad, Legolas. Legolas, get them up. No, we must wait for cover of darkness. Get me a soda, Legolas.
19) Do you think the race of men is weak? Aragorn and Faramir prove otherwise.
20) Does it make you sad to know the Elves are leaving these shores? yes, except for Arwen. I wish she'd leave.
21) React to this: Frodo lives!: Because of Sam!!
22) If you’ve read the book and seen the movie, did you like both, or do you think one was better than the other? lol is this a real question? I love the movies, but the books will always be better.
23) Do you think the movie was an insult to Tolkien’s genius? of course not. but ask me this question next year if they remove the Grey Company.
24) Any problem with the cast? that fifth human king in the prologue just was NOT how I imagined him in the book.
25) Honestly...do you think Liv Tyler did a good job as Arwen, or are you glad she’s in the movie just because she’s hot? Liv was perfect to play Arwen. I will say no more.
26) What do you think of the choice to cut Tom Bombadil? didn't make much of a difference
27) Was the Balrog all you had hoped for? sure
28) Any other changes from the book to the movie that irritate you? the idea of Arwen facing down the Nazgul makes me laugh. Faramir was ruined. Eomer's role was reduced into almost nonexistence. And I didn't like how Gandalf's lines about Eowyn in the houses of healing were given to Wormtongue. Ugh.
29) How about that special-edition DVD, pretty cool, or no? utter greatness. but I miss the original music when they leave Lorien, and I thought the new footage edited into Boromir's death scene was done choppily.
30) Lastly, what was your favourite bit of the movie? In FotR, I love everything about Amon Hen. Overall, I love "Forth Eorlingas" - the music, the huge Rohan banner moving down the ramp through the mob of orcs, and Gandalf and the Rohirrim charging down the hill. Ah, chills.

Eek, my last post of 2002. I wish I had interesting things to put in it, but I don't. So go instead to Alyssa's blog and bow to the greatness and beauty of her new layout. And Shan bought a new domain, but it's not up yet.

DeeDee: *points away from head* out!
Alyssa: nooooo!
DeeDee: yes!

DeeDee: I withdraw you, alyssa, as poison is drawn from a wound! *points gandalf's staff*
Alyssa: *gets sucked out*
DeeDee: nah, nevermind, you can stay
Alyssa: yayyy *crawls back in*
DeeDee: I have a little extra room in my medulla oblongata, but don't make a lot of noise
Alyssa: hey, if i do make a lot of noise will they think you're schizo?
DeeDee: they already think that
DeeDee: when I talk to you, can I call you 'precious'?
Alyssa: only if i really am precious to you :'(
DeeDee: :'( you are
Alyssa: :'( aww yay

I don't know. As for my tagboard, no one else seems to be having problems with it, but all I've seen for the last few days is a strange error page in German, which makes me feart. The only way I can read my tags is by looking at the file in FTP. So is no one else having a problem seeing it? :-/

Spent all of Saturday curled up in bed, coughing, sniffling, sneezing, and taking sore throat medicine. I've had a fever all day, and I've been freezing, even though our thermostat is set on 75. But I also read the first two chapters of Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, which is beautiful and powerful writing, and I saw Centerstage, which I loved. It was about ballerinas and had good acting, great characters, pretty dancing, and cute men to stare at. Best of all, it closed on "Canned Heat," which was most spiffy.

Right now I feel several degrees of awful; I hope I can sit through church in the morning. Several of my dad's highschool students have joined, and he's letting them lead this service, including the sermon. So that should be interesting.

On Wednesday I'm going to meet several of my best friends from highschool and go out to lunch. I'm really looking forward to that, because I haven't seen one of them in two or three years. Jeremey said, 'Did you notice that now we're closer to our ten-year reunion than we are to our graduation?' *blocks ears like Gollum* not listening! not listening!

*pulls blanket closer* must go to bed. And my fever is now 100.5. Is this medicine doing nothing whatsoever?
