To quote Bridget Jones: "Gah! Am idiot."

Awww, I wish I could have gone to Viggo's NYC booksigning! I'd rather have been at his poetry reading on March 1, but any Viggo-ness that I miss is a very sad occasion. Why do I have to live in the South, where no wonderful actor/ artist/ poets come to sign their books? Here's a picture that is just so Viggo. I got it from Jaimie's wonderful Musings site.

Right now I'm trying to get over my writer's block so I can post a new part to the roundrobin. There must be more angst, and I must figure out a way to prolong it. Mwahahahaha.
7:45 PM |

This post is to commemorate the "Squeaky Clean" chat room, which lasted almost 24 hours and officially ended at 7:30 AM. ;-)
7:33 AM |

This roundrobin has taken on a life of its own. Oh, the angst! Alyssa and I have actually made a fanlist for Nilram! LOL. I also made a fanlist for Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Which LOTR Woman are you?

friday, april 19

Not much to blog today. Spent all day (and am still) talking to Blue, Alyssa, Jen, Clare, and Chrissy. I've gotten very addicted to that roundrobin thing. Dang it! So I haven't worked at all on my Eowyn story. Still have fanlists to make for Nilram (LOL) and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Hmmm... what else can I write? Book 5! Now!! Ummm... yeah, that's about it. =)

My piece of pointless stupidity for the night. It's the Eye of Sauron in one of those famous vodka ads. Don't ask.

10:49 PM |

No more classes till Tuesday! Yay! As I'm writing this, my main page is only 3 hits away from being at 5000! Woohoo!! My newest addiction is adding parts to the round robin on the Blue Boards. I think we need a Nilram fanlist. *smirk*
7:48 PM |

Alyssa made me a little Eowyn doll! I put it on the main page. *loves it, does happy dance*
4:44 AM |

I'm so excited! The Discovery Channel just aired an archaeology special that spent a good few minutes at Tel Rehov in Israel, where I dug for three weeks in summer 2000! And most of their shots were from area B, where I was assigned!! They interviewed John Camp (our sponsor, better known as the author John Sandford) and Ami Mazar (our director, from Hebrew University), and did several gorgeous shots of the tel that made me miss Israel soooooo badly. When I saw that big bus drive up to the tel, with the sun just coming up, and saw those people raising the black shades on the plastic poles, I actually missed waking up at 3 in the morning to go move dirt! *siiigh* Now back to the awful Bunyan paper I have due tomorrow.

Another survey from Hildigunnur's blog!! Question: why are these things so fun to do?

What was the first HP fic you read?
Luckily, this was a positive experience for me! My first fic was After the End, which at that point was on chapter 7, I think.

How did you find said fic?
I don't remember how I found Sugarquill, but AtE had been updated that day, so I went there, and.... the rest is history!

What was the first slash fic you read?
Er... don't care for slash very much. The closest I've come to reading slash are Canis M's Sirius/Remus stories on SQ.

The first fic for your current favourite Ship/character?
AtE!

Do you read for a wide range of characters/ships, or stick to a favourite focus?
I read anything but H/H and D/anybody. My favorites are R/H fics, though I also really enjoy stories about the Marauders.

If you write fic, what was the first thing you wrote?
Finding Lily, which sounds like a Marauder-generation story, but is actually a sweet R/H story that I had a wonderful time writing. I mentioned in that other survey that my favorite character to write is Ron... it was in this story. =)

Had you ever written fanfic before (for some other fandom)?
I'd written a whole bunch of Jane Austen fanfic, ranging from serious stories to outright parodies, posted at the Republic of Pemberley.

How do you view that first work in light of your current projects?
I love FL... no regrets there! As for the JA fanfic, I don't care for the serious pieces very much anymore, but I love rereading the parodies. They can still make me laugh, and I confess that I'm quite proud of them. I have an unfinished story at SQ about Cedric Diggory, but a couple of circumstances combined so that I've never finished it: 1) December 19 and 2) I worked terribly hard on it, and I think it got a total of three reviews. I don't write stories just for reviews of course, and I know that people prefer to read R/H stories, but it was still very discouraging. I was only one or two parts from getting to Cedric's last year, where the story was really going to pick up in terms of action and Cedric's relationships with his friends and Cho. But.... I have entirely lost the will to write it. I've just started my first LotR fanfic, a story about Eowyn.

How many HP-related Yahoogroups do you belong to?
Three, I think... AtE, Gryffindor Tower, and HP for Grownups.

Yay!! Look what Chrissy made for me:

which "monty python and the holy grail" character are you?

This is a spiffy link. You can download an mp3 of Tolkien reading a poem in Elvish, from the chapter of Galadriel's mirror. The site says that Tolkien was depressed because publishers had refused LotR, and when he made this tape recording in 1952, it made him start believing in his work again. That's so cool!
11:50 PM |

Just joined not one, but TWO, new fanlists for Sauron. LOL! For tomorrow's seminar with Dr. Wood, I have to read Flannery O'Connor's The Violent Bear it Away. I'm glad we're going to do FoC again tomorrow because she's awesome! This whole Figwit phenomenon is cracking me up. Website, fanlist, now TORN just posted that a Wellington radio station is going to interview the actor tonight to ask him what he thinks about the whole thing. I'm going to post the website link again, because it is just TOO funny to be missed! FIGWIT LIVES!
6:04 PM |

We finished Pilgrim's Progress in Christian Literary Classics today, thank goodness! Dr. Wood asked random people if they liked the book, and he asked me. I sort of smiled and he said, "Be honest now." I said, "Well, I'm pretty sure I'll never read it again." He laughed and didn't seem to mind too much. I have to leave for Isaiah in 30 minutes. *groan* We're talking about our papers today, and I just hope I don't have to say much about mine.

monday, april 15

I left home at 8:00 this morning and got back to Waco at 5:30. I am so tired, but I had a great time at home. I got to eat all my favorites -- Dad's chili, shrimp gumbo, and boiled crawfish. Mmmm! I'm thinking about making a new fanlist (LOL, yes another one), this time for Viggo. There already is one, but it focuses more on him in LotR -- it even has a LotR name and layout. Besides, I just want to have one of my own! Just thinking about it. Two other fanlist ideas have been nagging at me -- R/H and Ginny Weasley. I must stop this madness! (but I never will.... mwahahahaha) But ROTFLOL... I just found out that there is now a fanlist for FIGWIT! Also joined a list for LotR Cast Love. Awwww! But seriously, I've never seen a group of cast members who love each other that much, are that proud of each other, and jump all over each other at every possible chance. I guess 18 months in New Zealand will do that to ya.

Got these two writing and HP fanfic/fandom surveys off Hildigunnur's blog!

Best time to write.
I do all my writing very late at night.

Got a specific playlist?
A LotR CD I burned with soundtrack songs, dialogue clips, and a few of Led Zeppelin's awesome LotR-themed songs ("Stairway to Heaven," "Ramble On," "Battle of Evermore"); the Corrs; my Viggo poetry CDs (raaaarrr, can that man write poetry! and his voice!!); Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow; Simon & Garfunkel

Prose easier than dialogue?
Oh no, not for me. I write dialogue effortlessly and have a great time with it. But I really struggle over prose.

Enjoy writing sex scenes?
I dunno, I've never tried. Doesn't seem like the type of thing I'd enjoy writing though.

Most troublesome words...
I'll say words I overuse, such as "very" and "really"

Do you use stickmen?
I admit, I'm not sure what these are! LOL

Favourite character POV right now:
My all-time favorite character to write is Ron Weasley -- he's funny, sweet, clever, and so adorably clueless sometimes. I've never had so much fun getting inside a character's head as I did with Ron. Other characters I enjoy writing are Elizabeth Bennet in my P&P fanfic, and my great-grandfather in my short stories and poems.

Collaboration or writing all alone in a dark attic like Jo March?
Collaboration is fun on silly stories, but I much prefer the Jo March Technique.

# 2...

When did you join the HP fandom? September 2001.

Where did you join the fandom? Sugarquill!

So when did you read the books? summer 2000

What do you think of the fandom, at this moment in time?
People can get mean over shipper debates and Ron-bashing, but it's mostly fun and enjoyable. I just hang around at Sugarquill, where it's safe and Weasley-licious.

If you could ask JKR one question, what would it be?
How did Lily and James fall in love?

And what do you fear your follow up question would be?
Please will you tell me? =)

What is your top ten list of fandom things?

1. Sugarquill
2. The Good Ship R/H
3. After the End
4. Gryffindor Tower
5. SQ's Daily Affirmations
6. W.A.I.L.
7. serious/sirius puns
8. funny signature buttons
9. the SQ April Fool's layout
10. did I mention Sugarquill?

2:52 AM |

Today I launched a new fanlist (I know, I know, I need 12 steps, stat!) for Luthien Tinuviel, who combines the one good thing about Arwen and everything good about Eowyn. In short, she's awesome. So pleeeease go join it! *winning smile* Church tomorrow (eek! *checks time* today), and then I have to spend all day finishing the proofreading on that guy's book. I'm only halfway done, but it's such a tedious job. For every correction, I have to go onto a chart and type the page number, line number, old version, and correction. Not fun. After what happened to my car on Thursday, I'm sort of wary of driving back to Texas on Monday morning. But I guess it'll be okay. If not, I can always stop by again to visit my new friends in Tallulah, Louisiana. SNL was pretty good, especially Brian Fellows and that crazy redneck couple. That couple's becoming one of my favorite skits, because they remind me of my old customers at the gas station!

LOL... only because procrastination wasn't an option. :-P
