I've added my latest paper -- a comparison of the detectives Father Brown and Lord Peter Wimsey -- to my writing and resume pages, for the education/boredom of anyone who actually clicks on it. ;-) I haven't decided yet if I will upload my Gerard Manley Hopkins paper. His poetry is absolutely gorgeous, but my paper had to be on a bunch of political-type junk. I didn't like it at all; it really drained the beauty of Hopkins into a bunch of drudgery. :-/ So anyway. Yeah.

Awwww, blue just called me from her camping trip. She was out trying to catch frogs. Shan was reconfiguring her laptop tonight, and she had to reinstall her system, and she accidentally lost tons of writing and artwork. =("Easily corrupted," eh? I will not deny that my heart has greatly desired this...

It's really weird not to have any school assignments to put off or feel guilty about not doing. I keep trying to remember what I'm procrastinating, and then I remember that there's nothing to procrastinate. It's like . . . . . a great void is suddenly in my life, where procrastination used to be . . . *sniff* :-D

I only need about three more pages on this paper, so I'm going to take a break to gush about how awesome my family is, and how much I adore them.Dad
My dad is insane. He makes up these crazy rhymes and songs that crack me up. He was a hippie, and he went all over the country in the sixties. He saw Jefferson Airplane and a whole bunch of other cool people in concert. When my parents were first married, he owned a pottery shop, and every weekend he would sell his work in the French Quarter in New Orleans. He also worked part-time as a dj at various radio stations. In college, he studied practically everything. For most of his teaching years, he taught highschool English, but now he teaches world history and art. He also planted the first Mennonite church in our town, which is now six years old. He has a great voice, he's a gifted poet, he's the funniest person I've met, and he's a wonderful father. I adore my dad.Mom
My mom is the smartest person I know. She loves literature and obsesses about fictional characters the same way I do. When she was in highschool, her job was to sing at people's weddings because she has a beautiful voice. Like my dad, she's an amazing poet, much better than I could ever be. She met my dad on the bus they took every morning to college. She really wanted to meet him, so one day she arranged it with the other passengers that the only seat available was by her. While my dad owned the pottery shop, my mom made jewelry, which she also sold at the French Quarter. Also like my dad, she was a radio dj part-time. Now she teaches highschool English, and all her students love her because she makes her classes interesting and fun. I adore my mom.Parent Summary -- I sometimes forget how extremely grateful I am for my parents, but I love the fact that they love each other (31 years!), that they love me, and that I love them and can talk to them about anything. I would be nothing without them.
Bobby
Bobby is two years younger than I am, and I respect him more than any guy I know. When we were kids, I tortured him, but we had some wonderful games that no one will ever understand, such as "The Witch and Flashlight Man," a twisted mixture of Rainbow Brite, The Neverending Story, and Bobby's flashlight. We built hide-outs in the woods and rode our bicycles everywhere together. Until the middle of highschool, my brother was my best friend. Now he works really hard. He works all day at Peavey Electronics, goes to night class, drives home, and sleeps. He's very hard-working and generous with his time. He's a talented musician; he's mastered the piano, the trumpet, and the guitar, and he can also sing, though he doesn't like to. On top of all that, Bobby is one of the funniest people I know. I need only pop in my priceless videotape of our fractured fairytales to cheer myself up. I adore him.Emma
When Emma was born, I was 9, and she was the little sister I had always prayed for. Emma is 13 now, and she's sharp as a tack, clever, funny, and extremely caring about her many friends. She has great taste in clothes and she's very graceful and pretty. She also has a beautiful singing voice, plays the clarinet, and pitches for her softball team. We don't always get along, but I'm extremely proud of her. I adore her.Martha
Last but certainly not least is Martha, who's 11 years younger than I am. There's no one in the world that I love more than Martha. Period. She shares the love of literature and characters that my mom and I do. At the age of 8, she could sit through the 5 hours of Pride and Prejudice, and she still loves to quote lines from it. Her newest obsessions are Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. She draws pictures that make me grin no matter what kind of mood I'm in. Martha's smart, funny, hyper-active, and occasionally downright nuts. I adore her.So that, ladies and gentleman, is my family. I don't deserve them, but I'm thrilled that I got them. The End.

I always make fun of Shannon because she thinks her dog can understand English. Well tonight, she was sitting on my bed, and the dog was lying beside her, and I leaned over and said, "Dog, if you understand English, jump off the bed." And so help me, the dog stood up and jumped off the bed. We just about died laughing. *ahem* Back to the paper.

The paper's coming along nicely. It's been very easy to write so far, and I'm glad that it's turning into one of those rare papers that seem to write themselves. In other news, blue has finally updated her blog. I can't believe school is practically over. This year has flown by. I turn this paper in tomorrow, take a final on Thursday morning, and that's it!

Taking a break from the paper.... it's about halfway done! Woohoo!!
6:40 PM |
Whilst curled up in my bed crying this afternoon, for some reason I thought of something completely unrelated -- a really great thesis statement for the paper I have to write. I didn't know how I was going to write all those pages on Chesterton's detective stories, then I realized that Dorothy Sayers (one of my favorite writers) was also a twentieth-century Catholic novelist, and also wrote detective stories. While Chesterton's detective was a poor, humble priest, Sayers' was a wealthy agnostic gentleman. Compare/contrast. Heh.
12:14 PM |
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my mom and dad! 31 years! Woohoo!!!! *throws confetti*
9:48 AM |
May I just say that Robin Hood: Men in Tights is absolutely hilarious? I know what you're thinking... this post is just so I'll have a post for today. Well, you're right.
