What a day!
First we went to Gamla, a famous fortress which Josephus wrote about during the Jewish revolt. It featured a killer climb, but cool scenery.
Next was Bethsaida, the fishing town where Peter was from. Nearby we ate a picnic lunch at the Jordan River, which was a MAJOR disappointment. It looked like a dirty Mississippi “crick.”
One van left with half the group after that, and 7 of us went with Dr. B to the hexagonal pools. We drove part of the way down the worst road from hell, then walked another hour. Boy, was it worth it! The water was absolutely freezing.
The main feature, though, was THE JUMP, from a cliff 40 feet over the water. And guess what? I did it! I also lost my left contact in the process. Then we walked back another hour to the van.
The guys made up a song about their bathroom troubles in Egypt – “The Big D in Egypt.” They’re going to refine the words, Hanan’s going to work out the guitar, and they’re going to record it for future Egypt cds. It’s pretty funny. One verse is about how Kyle stopped the 11-bus caravan out of the Sinai desert, one is about Adam and his barf bag on the Red Sea ferry, etc.
Dr. B had to return the rental van in Tiberias, so we ate pizza there and took a taxi back. It’s 8:00 now, so I’m gonna take a shower and go to sleep. 4:30 is not far away from kicking off another week at Tel Rehov!
