Jean Valjean is the lead character in Les Misérables. He finds himself in trouble with the authorities on more than one occassion, and is convicted for theft. Overall, he is a good man, though, with a character of gold. If he was alive today, he would never take anything of real value from a pawn shop NYC or from any merchant or store for that matter. He was first sent to prison for stealing some bread to feed his sister's children - does that really make him a criminal? Anyway, Les Misérables is a captivating story that is considered a treasure by many. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading the book or watching the show, this story is a must-see.
