Oscar and Lucinda is the love story of two gamblers: a wealthy woman who owns a glass factory in Sydney, and a shy, awkward Anglican minister. Peter Carey won a Booker Prize for his novel, and the 1997 film, directed by Gillian Armstrong (Little Women) was unfortunately overlooked in the wake of Titanic. The movie is breathtaking in every aspect, but particularly cinematography, score (Thomas Newman), and acting.
